So two weekends ago now, I ran the 10km Twilight Bay Run in Wynnum. The atmosphere there was great, I will definitely be running it again next year, even though it is one of the more expensive runs. I didn't realise how pretty it is down there too, so many distractions to look at while running! And the best part, they had pace runners, which helped me to achieve a new personal best for the year, only 1 minute off from my PB back in 2009. It felt amazing to finish in a time I was happy with, shaving 6 minutes off my time at Bridge to Brisbane. I was buzzing for days afterwards, I never want to stop running. I love the feeling of getting fitter and fitter.
In between these fun runs I've still been trying to stick to the advanced 10k training program as best I can, although I talk myself out of doing most of the sprints because I play soccer. I should probably start doing them though. So far I've just been doing 40/50/60 minute runs, on average 4 days a week. These runs have definitely been my down time/ relaxing time, where I just try to switch my brain off for a good 9/10km. Its nice, and as uni exams are coming up I think I'm going to need to keep it up more than ever!
My diet hasn't improved much at all, I try so hard to eat breakfast everyday! and I feel so good when I do, I've lost another kilo as well, bringing that to 5 kilos down since july.
Next weekend I'm running in toowoomba wth my dad and one of my longest friends ever, who said he's also keen to do the full marathon next year. The countdown in currently 273 days, we'll get there!
Lastly, a pro tip: add some S club 7 to your running playlist, I'm not even joking, it's amazing :P

Today marks the end of 30 days that Alenka and I decided to give up McDonalds! Feels pretty good to have finished that, I only cheated once, and to be honest I havent really missed it. On that note, I've tried to fix up my eating habits, slowly but surely. Starting with breakfast, I've been eating eggs every morning, usually with some spinach.. and then for dinner just trying not to eat crap...getting there :)
I've also made progress on the exercise side of things too, deciding to pick a 10km training program from the Gold Coast Marathon website to fill in the time before I can start a full marathon program, and hopefully create some more aerobic fitness.
So far this weeks program has consisted of two 40mins runs. I nearly made it 3 laps around ring road, which I'm told each lap is 2.5km..I'd guestimate I did 7km in 40mins, seeing as the app runkeeper wouldnt work for me! It feels good to be getting fit again, to feel my body functioning how I remember in high school. Having said that, I weighed myself this morn and have dropped another KG, meaning I have lost 4kg since July. I'm still a LOT heavier than I was in high school, and it doesnt bother me that I'm that heavy so long as I can get back to the fitness level I used to be.
Not to make this too long, but I've also been reading a book called "Born to Run", if you haven't heard of it, its worth checking out. I'm not sure how fictional it is but so far its pretty damn inspiring. Its about a culture Tarahumara or "Running People", who live in the most deserted parts of northwest Mexico. The author describes them as pretty much the ideal athlete. Seriously worth googling them if you dont have the book.
Thats all from me, I have an hour long run to do on sunday, will be posting again then. X
Ok so yesterday, I decided to start this. The ultimate goal being to run the full marathon at the Gold Coast next yr, July 7th to be exact. This is ages away, but my body is also ages away from being capable of doing it.. so i'm starting now! I've found a training program that goes for 20 weeks. At the moment I just can't fathom being able to run for 4 hours, but it won't just be me, I'll have kanye to keep me company. It'll be great. I'm considering doing the program twice, meaning i'll start soon - but unsure if this is too crazy or if it'll be a sure way to burning out.
I feel like the first step to this is fixing my diet! at the moment I put about zero effort into my diet and the result is I eat crap all the time. I could probably count on one hand the number of veggies I've eaten this week. There's alot of stuff on the web for inspiration, I think the first step will be trying to cut out how much processed and packed stuff I buy/eat.
Running a marathon has been one of those 'when I get around to it' goals that I've had since I started long distance running - back in 2007, so I've decided to commit this time and just get in there and do it. I feel like it'll be good, and my dad is mostly my inspiration, seeing as he'll be competeing in an ironman this yr - his training has sort of been a breath of fresh air for him - just what he needed since my mum got sick almost 2 years ago now. And in a way its been just what I needed too, to see him back on track and the positive effect that exercise has on us. Seeing as I've lost two friends in the past two weeks, I'd like some of this fresh air for myself. As kanye says, "nothing's ever promised tomorrow today" so I'm taking this chance to do my best and try something amazing.. I'll try and post every run on here as a way to keep a record for myself, and hopefully it won't turn into a form of procrastination from my studies ^.^ wish me luck x
